This book is not well written. It follows the romance novel formula and is very predictable. There is great overuse of the endearing term "darlin". And I did not enjoy the fact that the "s" word was used over and over by many of the characters. It just did not seem necessary. I am from Texas and I don't think the majority of us talk that way. Having said all this I did read the entire book probably because I was bored and my "darlin" husband was watching football!
I was disappointed because I believe I have read another one of her novels and enjoyed it.
one of the worst written books I've read in a long time. totally predictable and unimaginative. The interactions of the characters were unbelievably immature. The only reason I finished it was because we were on a 10 day Caribbean cruise and I had nothing else to read!

Don't waste your time on this one.
Enjoyable romance between the couple that always loved each other, despite divorcing. Jackson and "Tornado" Loretta Baily's daughter Nona is in love with Travis Calhoun and plans to quit college. As Nona has one more year to complete her degree, Loretta is determined that she finish school. Strong female and male characters, no drag down drama.

Believable characters, dialogue and story line.

"Listen to the words of this song, Nona. This is our song from now on. This is how deep my love is for you. We'll be dancing to this song when we have grandchildren," he whispered.
"Honey, I hope when we are old we are listening to this song after a hot bout of sex, not dancing to it," she said.

"The potholes are so big you could lose an army rank in them."
"Ezra's lane is like life--it's one hell of a rough ride," Jackson said.
"Don't go all philosophical on me."
"Just talking about life, ma'am."

I will re-read this book and always look forward to, pre-order when possible, new works by this author.
When I saw the description for this I thought it might be like aMills and Boon type story I read years ago, not least because Loretta's return to her former marital home made it sound like she was re-entering enemy territory. Thankfully this was not the case. In saying that I liked the story, I have to admit that Princess Nona annoyed the cr@p out of me, with her telling her mother that ranching was what she was born to do. She clearly couldn't see herself having a time of being older and less nimble but maybe everyone is like that when they are twenty-something before life puts manners on them. I didn't care for the casual aspersions on Irish things, for example one of Loretta's friends complaining that her ex husband insisted that their child be given an Irish name because her family was of Latin American origin. Would the author (or indeed other authors) have so casually complained about a Hebrew name? However, this was just a small detail and on the whole I liked the book.
Carolyn Brown is becoming another of my favorite writers. Love her writing style and she can put you right in the middle of the landscape. Texas romance filled with characters that are strong willed and I really liked that about the characters she writes about, I read through this book pretty quick as it's not very long but a very fun read. Give her a try. It takes place on a ranch during the hot Texas summer, you feel like you're right there bailing the hay with them melting away from the head!
Another great one from Carolyn Brown. A second chance romance for Loretta and her sexy ex-husband Jackson. Mistakes were made and Loretta didn't stay around to wait for an explanation. Now seventeen years later their daughter, Nona, is spending the summer at Lonesome Canyon Ranch with her father. Loretta showed up, unannounced, to spend six weeks there to convince Nona to come back to Oklahoma and go back to school. She has one more year of college and she will have her degree. But Nona wants to be a rancher. And sparks seem to be flying between Loretta and Jackson. Much will happen in those six weeks and you will just have to read the book to find out the path that is taken by all. Carolyn Brown's books never, ever disappoint.
